Terms of Service
Effective November 6, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Hongyang Jin, an individual developer who makes and sells Somuno (“we”, “us”). They cover the Somuno app for Mac, Somuno Pro, and this website. By downloading, using or buying Somuno, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Somuno.
1. Buying Somuno Pro
On this website: Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle handles payment, taxes, invoices and refunds, and provides customer service for orders. Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's buyer terms.
In the Mac App Store: In-app purchases are sold and processed by Apple, and Apple's terms for the App Store apply to them, including Apple's standard license agreement for apps.
Somuno Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription: there are no recurring charges. Prices are shown on our pricing page and at checkout, and taxes are calculated at checkout. If we change the price, it doesn't affect orders you have already paid for.
2. Your license
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Somuno under these terms.
- Free version: you can use it on any Mac you own or use. It enhances the first 60 seconds of each file.
- Somuno Pro bought on this website is for one person, on up to 3 Macs that you own or use. You may use Somuno and its results for personal and commercial work.
- You may not share, sell, rent or publish your license, or try to get around Somuno's license checks.
- You may not copy, modify, decompile or reverse engineer Somuno, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
Somuno includes open source components – among them a speech enhancement model and the LAME MP3 encoder, credited in the app's About window – that are licensed to you under their own licenses. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licenses.
3. Your recordings and results
Somuno processes your files on your Mac. We don't receive, store, host or review your recordings or the results.
- You keep all rights to the files you process and to the results Somuno creates from them. We claim no rights to them.
- You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to process your recordings – including the consent of people whose voices are recorded, where the law requires it – and for how you use the results.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Somuno or this website:
- for anything unlawful, or to help anyone else break the law;
- to commit fraud, or to create or alter recordings in order to deceive people – for example to falsify evidence;
- to infringe anyone's copyright, privacy or other rights;
- to send spam;
- to interfere with the security of Somuno, this website or our license server – for example by spreading malware, probing for weaknesses, overloading or scraping them, or getting licenses you didn't pay for.
5. Copyright complaints
If you believe that Somuno or this website infringes your copyright or other rights, email support@hongyangjin.com with the material concerned, the rights you hold and your contact details. We review each complaint, remove infringing material from this website, and may end the license of anyone who repeatedly infringes others' rights with Somuno.
6. About the results
Somuno uses a machine learning model to enhance speech. Results depend on the recording: they can contain artifacts, and the model can change or remove parts of the sound, including words or other sounds you wanted to keep. Listen to the results before you rely on them. Enhanced recordings are altered recordings and aren't suitable where an unaltered original is required, such as forensic or legal evidence. Somuno never overwrites your original files; keep them.
7. Our rights
Somuno, this website, and the Somuno name and icon belong to us and are protected by copyright and other laws, except for the open source components mentioned above. These terms don't give you any rights to them other than the license in section 2.
8. Updates and availability
We work to keep Somuno useful and reliable, but we don't promise that it or this website will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may release updates that add, change or remove features. Somuno works offline; our website and license server may occasionally be unavailable.
9. Refunds
Purchases on this website can be refunded within 30 days. See our Refund Policy. Refunds for Mac App Store purchases are handled by Apple.
10. Suspension and termination
You can stop using Somuno at any time. We may suspend or end your license if you materially breach these terms, if your payment is reversed or charged back, if there is a risk of fraud or to security, or after repeated or serious violations. When your license ends, you must stop using Somuno Pro. Sections 3, 6, 7, 11 and 12 continue to apply after the license ends.
11. Disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, Somuno is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by agreement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits or business, arising from your use of Somuno. Our total liability for any claim relating to Somuno is limited to the amount you paid for Somuno Pro in the 12 months before the claim. These limits don't apply to liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we do, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using Somuno after a change, the new terms apply. Changes don't affect orders you have already paid for.
