Please include your macOS version and Mac model. If a file causes trouble, tell us its format and length.

Getting started

  1. Drag audio or video files – or whole folders – onto the Somuno window, or click Choose Files…
  2. In the toolbar, choose the model (General, or Keep Laughter to keep laughter in the recording) and the speed (Fast or High Quality).
  3. Click Start. Each result is saved next to its original, with “-enhanced” added to the name.
  4. Double-click a finished file to compare the original and the enhanced version. Press Space to play or pause and A / B to switch.

More options – strength, stereo handling, output format, sample rate, where results are saved, and the app's language – are in Somuno › Settings…

Questions

What do I need to run Somuno?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Macs with Intel processors aren't supported.

What does the free version do?

Every feature works, but each file is enhanced for its first 60 seconds; the rest of the file stays as it was. Somuno Pro enhances whole files. It's a one-time purchase – no subscription.

How do I buy Somuno Pro?

Choose Somuno › Settings…, click Somuno Pro, then Unlock Somuno Pro. If you have a license key, enter it on the same pane and click Activate.

I have a new Mac. How do I move Somuno Pro?

Purchases in the Mac App Store: on the new Mac, click Restore Purchases on the Somuno Pro pane. License keys: on the old Mac, click Deactivate on This Mac, then enter the key on the new Mac.

Can I use my App Store purchase in a copy of Somuno that isn't from the App Store?

Yes. On the Somuno Pro pane of the App Store version, click Get License for Other Copies, copy the license, and enter it in the other copy.

Why does Somuno ask for permission to save in a folder?

Apps from the Mac App Store can only write where you allow them to. The first time Somuno saves results next to your files in a folder, it asks once for that folder and remembers your choice. You can also choose one save folder for all results in Settings.

Which files can I use?

WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless, MP3 and AAC/M4A audio, and the soundtrack of MP4, MOV and M4V videos – from 8 to 48 kHz, mono, stereo or multichannel. Results are saved in the original format (lossy files as AAC), or as WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Apple Lossless or AAC if you choose.

How long does it take?

It depends on your Mac and the speed you choose. On an M4 Mac, Fast takes a little under half the length of the recording, and High Quality about three quarters. You can keep adding files while Somuno works.

Does Somuno upload my recordings?

No. All processing happens on your Mac. See the Privacy Policy.

The result still has some noise, or sounds too processed.

Try High Quality, or lower Strength in Settings to blend in some of the original sound. Very loud or musical background sounds can't always be removed completely.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases in the Mac App Store are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. For license keys, email us.

Troubleshooting

“No permission to save in …”

Somuno wasn't allowed to save in that folder. Right-click the file, choose Process Again, and click Allow when Somuno asks – or choose a save folder in Settings.

“Couldn't read the file”

The file may be damaged, or use a format macOS can't read. Try converting it to WAV or AAC, or email us.

“Model not found”

Part of the app is missing. Delete Somuno and install it again.

Somuno is in the wrong language

Somuno follows your Mac's language. To choose another one, open Somuno › Settings… › General › Language and restart the app.
